Each month from May to October FOMAD conducts a series of short walks under the theme "Heritage Secrets of the Bush". They are generally led by local archaeologist and State Heritage Advisor, David Bannear.
In 1993 David completed an in-depth analysis and mapping of all of the significant mining sites in the Castlemaine, Maldon and Taradale areas. Sample sections of these reports are available for download.
The walks are held on the fourth Sunday of the month from May to October, weather permitting. There is no need to book, just assemble at the car park at the rear of the Castlemaine Market Building by 10am and we travel from there by car. They generally last about two hours and strong shoes should be worn.
